Phase 1

You start out in the early stage on the streets with nothing but your guts and a dream. Here, you’ll battle for position with the other players, grinding out your wins and learning how to survive in the cutthroat world of the poker tournament. Hang on to your wits – things get crazy if you make it to the next phase.

Phase 2

Phase 2 begins after a certain number of players have been eliminated. You’ll be moved to the backrooms and become a made man (or woman). Now, everyone you see has a bounty amount on their head. The amounts vary (that’s the “mystery” part of the game), which means that some players’ heads are worth a lot of money while others are worth a little. Eliminate opponents and claim as many rewards as you can.

Phase 3

You’ve made it to the VIP boss’s mansion. This is the final table where the remaining bounty prizes are large, and the egos are even larger. Channeling Your Inner Bounty Hunter – Knockout Poker Strategy

1. Phase 1. Mystery bounties aren’t even allocated yet. Don’t overextend your range too early. Play a balanced strategy and focus on building a stack that lets you contend for knockouts later.

• Phase 2. Once bounties are out, now it’s time to play more aggressively. You can even see what each player is worth, so factor that into your hands. Expected value of each action increases when you’re up against a “valuable player.” Likewise, you’ll need to protect your neck if your bounty is large.

1. Against short stacks. Loosen your range when a knockout opportunity arises, especially if it’s against shorter stacks.

• Shoving. Look for profitable shove spots against medium or short stacks, particularly in blind-vs-blind or button-vs-blinds scenarios. Be a bully. That’s a part of what mafia life is all about, right?

• Baiting over aggressive players. If you think someone has put a target on your back, look to trap them. That bounty can be hard to resist, and you can often tell when a player is a bit too hungry to claim yours.

• Phase 3. Now it’s time to play your best poker. The most relevant factor will probably be stack dynamics. If you’re on the bigger side, apply pressure to the other players. If you’re smaller, you need to find spots to shove – even with marginal cards. For folks in the middle, a balanced approach works well. He suggests increasing 3-bet frequencies but also employing a polarized 4-bet range, incorporating both premium hands and a few selective bluffs. This approach aims to exploit opponents who may overvalue bounties and play more loosely.
